Three Mistakes and A Truth

I’ve been digging into a lot of the scientific literature from the late 19th and early 20th century and it got me thinking about our modern celebrity scientists. Below I’ve prepared four statements, only one of which is true. See if you can figure out which one.

  1. I suspect you’re going to say the flatulence one is the true one. But flatulence itself is a theory based on evidence (smell, a feeling of release if it comes from me, etc).

    1. It’s the only one that can be verified, every time, through a common experience of human beings.

I’m doing this because an academic paper project has kind of drug me into the history of scientism. The things scientific celebrities were saying 200, 100, and 50 years ago is WILD and, in many cases, hilariously wrong.

Number four is just one example of such a thing scientific “prophecy” gave us in the form of “truth, whether you believe in it or not.”
